When Hoa was in Vietnam, beyond her culinary journey across the country, she found immense joy in spending time at art galleries. Exploring lacquer paintings was one of her cherished activities, and here is a glimpse into one of her favorites, which is also The Chi's choice for restaurant or home interior decor.

1. Portrait Paintings by Artist Nguyễn Đức Huy

It’s hard to express how much we love this collection of Nguyen Duc Huy. Lacquer painting is often seen as rigid and unchanging, with many associating it solely with the muted tones of a bygone era. However, Nguyễn Đức Huy has breathed new life into this traditional medium, moving beyond its classic and traditional roots. His work is bold, passionate, and free-spirited. Through his collection, he celebrates the elegance and vitality of women, transforming them into symbols of life’s beauty and energy. Each piece radiates a sense of liberation and boundless creativity, making his paintings a stunning tribute to both tradition and innovation.

2. Abstract paintings by Bùi Trọng Dư

In an interview with Thanh Niên newspaper, the artist shared, “For me, women and lotuses are like two parts of one entity. Vietnamese women, in general, endure a lifetime of hardship yet remain strong, preserving their virtues and rising to prominent roles in society. They are like the lotus, thriving in the mud but blooming into fragrant flowers. This is the underlying message in all my nude paintings with lotuses.”. We love his abstract works for the way they seamlessly merge tradition, symbolism, and the unconventional. Each piece resonates with a balance of cultural depth and artistic boldness, making his creations truly captivating.

We encourage our clients to select sơn mài lacquer art into their living spaces and restaurants, as it brings a unique warmth and character to any setting as well as enriches spaces with a touch of history and cultural depth. A thoughtfully selected lacquer painting can become the focal point of a room, capturing attention with its quiet sophistication. Its intricate textures and layered details invite deeper appreciation, while the luminous finish subtly shifts with the light, adding a dynamic and ever-changing charm to the decor.
